Several times now I’ve been the lucky recipient of the Math Tutor DVD’s. I am really pleased with this program. I love anything that will help me teach higher math. Higher math is scary. I like how these DVD’s have short simple lessons and not a lot of fluff or extra nonsense.
For this review I was sent Pre-Algebra and Unlock the Power of your TI-84 / TI-83 Graphing Calculator!
On the cover of the disks you get a break down of what’s on them. You can have your child watch the entire thing, or you can have your child go through their regular math curriculum, then when they get to the spot in your curriculum where you are learning about, say, subtracting Integers, you pull out the pre algebra DVD and have them watch that segment for reinforcement. Or you can just pull out the DVD when the child is having trouble in an area for a new and fresh explanation.
We have already done pre algebra so I only had my children watch a few lessons for reinforcement. I think this was actually really helpful since we did it right before we started Algebra. That is also a good way to use these DVD’s as just a quick review at the beginning of the year before you start the next level.

Ti Calculator
This DVD could not have come into our house at a better time. My son was just about to start Algebra at the local community college. So far we’d done Algebra at home and we’d not used a Ti calculator so neither of us knew how to use it. Within just a few lessons he had enough information to go to his first day of class, confident that he could use the basic functions on the calculator. He continued to watch the rest of the lessons on this DVD and I really believe he is going to get much more out of the calculator than his brother did who just played with it till he figured it out. In Pakistan, expenditures on tutoring per child averaged the equivalent of $3.40 a month in 2011, a significant amount considering 60% of Pakistan’s populations reportedly live on less than $2 per day. In India, average spending was lower, but still equated to about $2 per month.
Math tutors at Mathnasium provide one-on-one help with schoolwork. We provide homework help & school work help that is based on the unique goals of each child. Home work will be seen as a welcome challenge when working with a tutor for math that can guide the student through the problem.

Thanks so much for this information. I have been looking for a math tutor in San Jose area. I don't think that watching a DVD will help my daughter. I think she needs real help with the math problems. Thanks for posting this information though.
